As we get older,let's be honest,we hate being told what to do.We like to be in charge, in control and we like a life without complications.We resist it when people take liberties with us and we don't generally like unpleasant surprises-
So why is it then that we often avoid a relatively simple task that is one of the most important things that we ever need to do? Why is it that we do not write a will? I know why.
It is because it seems complicated and, with many, it almost feels like tempting providence. Well, I'm here to tell you that making a will is not only a simple thing to do, it is one of the best things you can ever do if you want to experience real peace of mind.

To help put this into proper perspective for you let me share with you a true story about a good friend of mine who has just gone through a very nasty separation from his wife. In fact there is virtually no civility still existing between the two of them and this makes arranging visits for his two children a very arduous task indeed. On top of that he has one surviving brother and to put it bluntly they simply loathe each other, I won't bore you with all the detail, just consider it daggers drawn as the saying goes.
Ok so where is all this going I can hear you saying, well there is some good news, he is now living with his new partner who he absolutely adores and they are still celebrating the recent birth of their baby girl Samantha. So you can only imagine the look on his face when I explained to him exactly what would happen to his possessions should he die prematurely without a valid Will in place. You see my friend is just like the majority of people who being completely tied up with living has paid not one thought to what would happen in the worst case scenario.
I explained to him how as things stand his partner and new baby have no legal right to any of his possessions, end of story! I went on to emphasise that his wife, who he cannot stand the sight of will receive the lions share of his assets and if he dies intestate and depending upon the value of his estate then his brother could potentially inherit too…
I'm not joking when I say he turned ashen, in fact the colour just drained from his face, I swear he would have completed the paperwork there and then. Sufficient to say his house is in good order now so the panic is over for him at least, but what about you? Are you comfortable with that, is that really what you would like to happen to your loved ones?
Imagine for a moment the shock horror, the pain and feeling of despair, betrayal even your loved ones will feel if a similar situation occurred in your life, it just doesn't bear thinking about…
